Instagram Reach: The number of unique users that saw your Instagram post or story on any given day.
That means if Jimmy, Rachel, and Bob will see your post once, your Instagram reach is going to be 3. But if Jimmy sees the post 5 times, Rachel twice, and Bob won’t see it at all, your reach is going to be just 2 – because only 2 unique users have seen the post.
And now of course when you know what does Instagram reach means, you also need to know how to increase it.
Because with this definition in mind, it’s pretty obvious that the more of it you have, the more attention you get, the more followers you’ll gain, and the more sales you can make.
In other words, it is one of the most important Instagram marketing metrics to track as it impacts EVERYTHING.

3 Secrets To Increasing Instagram Reach
All right, as I already mentioned, your reach has to be as high as possible and if you are going to follow the secrets that I am about to show you, then you’ll make it grow.

1. Have The Right Hasthag Strategy
Yes, I know you hear this all the time. However, hashtags are one of the best ways to increase your Instagram reach, if you have the right strategy in place.
I’ve tested a lot of hashtag strategies over the years, and here is the one that has increased my reach the most:
- 5 hasthags with 20% less engagement. (For example, if your posts on average get 1,000 likes, then you want to choose 5 hashtags with posts on the “top” page that have 800 likes.)
- 20 hashtags with similar engagement (For example, if your posts average 1,000 likes, you want to choose 20 hashtags with posts on the “top” page that have 1,000 likes as well.)
- 5 hashtags with 20% higher engagement (For example, if your posts average 1,000 likes, you want to choose 5 hashtags with posts on the “top” page that have 1,200 likes.)
All right, I know doing this research might be a bit tough, and that is why I use a tool called Flick to do it. It’s one of the most advanced hashtag research tools that exist and you should check it out.
If you are going to follow this simple strategy, not only your Instagram reach will start increasing, but you’re also going to get a ton of followers and build a huge following.
So, try it out.
2. Post Super High-Quality Content
This is not a typo. The word “super” just belongs there. You have to totally OUTVALUE your competitors and stun your followers with all of the value that you give away.
That is going to make them share the post with their audience, which automatically results in more reach.
Another thing that matters is that the post is going to get more engagement which is going to tell the algorithm it is worth showing to more people, and suddenly your hashtag reach is going to increase and your explore page reach is going to rocket as well!
For example, here are pieces of super high-quality content that will increase your Instagram reach.
From my experience, carousels and infographics get shared the most. So, definitely try them out.
Another amazing way to increase your reach is by collaborating with other content creators or brands.
