How To Build A Sales Funnel For An Online Course

In today’s digital age, online courses have become a popular way for people to acquire new skills and knowledge.

However, simply creating a great course is not enough to ensure its success. You need a well-designed sales funnel to attract potential customers and convert them into paying students.

A sales funnel is a strategic process that guides your potential customers toward making a purchase decision.

In this article, I will guide you through the essential steps to build a sales funnel for your online course.

And by the end, you will have a comprehensive understanding of how to create a successful sales funnel for your online course that will help you to increase your revenue and achieve your business goals.

Here’s what we’re going to be talking about today:

  1. Page #1: The Sales Page
  2. Page #2: The Upsell Page
  3. Page #3: Downsell Page
  4. Page #4: Upsell Page #2
  5. Page #5: Thank-You Page

So, are you ready to begin? If so, let’s dive in…

Page #1: The Sales Page

This is the very first page of the funnel. It’s important to mention that this funnel is designed to sell mid-ticket or low-ticket courses. That means up to $300.

If you’re looking to sell a high-ticket course that costs like $997, then using a webinar funnel or closing the customers on phone might work better.

The sales page is an incredibly important element for this sales funnel for online courses. This is where the sale is going to happen.

You’re going to usually share a big-ass sales letter on this page to persuade people to take action and make the course feel it’s more worth than the money that they will pay.

Your sales page should clearly convey the value and benefits of your course, build trust with potential customers, and make it easy for them to take action and purchase your course. Here are some tips to help you create a compelling sales page that drives conversions:

  1. Focus on Benefits: Instead of simply listing the features of your course, focus on the benefits that your course provides. Explain how your course will help your potential customers solve a problem, achieve a goal, or improve their lives in some way.
  2. Use Attention-Grabbing Headlines: Your headlines should be attention-grabbing and clearly communicate the key benefits of your course. Use strong action words and make sure your headlines stand out visually on the page.
  3. Include Social Proof: People are more likely to trust your course if they see that others have already had success with it. Include testimonials from satisfied customers, case studies, and social proof such as the number of students who have enrolled in your course.
  4. Use Engaging Visuals: Use high-quality images and videos to showcase your course and make your sales page visually appealing. Use images and videos that illustrate the benefits of your course and help potential customers envision themselves using and benefiting from it.
  5. Address Objections: Address potential objections that potential customers may have, such as concerns about the cost or time commitment required. Show that you understand their concerns and provide clear answers to their questions.
  6. Create Urgency: Create a sense of urgency by offering limited-time bonuses, discounts, or early bird pricing. Use countdown timers to create a sense of urgency and encourage potential customers to take action.
  7. Make it Easy to Buy: Make it easy for potential customers to purchase your course by including clear calls-to-action, a simple checkout process, and multiple payment options.

Of course, there are many more important things you need to be aware of if you want to write a sales page that converts. I will share more of them with you in this blog.

However, the sales page is just the first page of this sales funnel for an online course…

Page #2: The Upsell Page

After your dream customers purchase, you’re going to use this page to instantly redirect them to the upsell page where you are going to sell them another product or service.

Marketers also call this page the “one-time offer” page.

The upsell page example

It usually consists of just a few things:

  • A Headline
  • A Video Sales Letter
  • A Call To Action Button

But there are also many other things you can include like a timer a price justification part, etc. And sometimes there even doesn’t have to be a video sales letter like in the example above.

It all depends on how you decide to structure it, but it shouldn’t be a page that is longer than a chemistry schoolbook.

Depending on whether they are going to buy or not, you’re going to redirect people to one of the following two pages of this sales funnel for an online course…

Page #3: Downsell Page

This is the page you’re going to drive people to in case they DON’T get the upsell.

Here you are going to present them with an alternative solution which can be a cheaper option of the thing you offered them in the upsell or something like a payment plan that they will be able to handle.

In some cases, like in the example below, this page doesn’t even have to be a page on its own but it can be a pop-up banner that will appear after people click the “No thanks” link or button on the upsell page.

What Is Downselling? (Tips, Examples & Best Practices)

It is structured similarly to the upsell page, with nearly no difference.

Using this page can seriously increase the average value of every customer that this sales funnel for an online course will generate as it will allow you to make a lot of people who would otherwise not buy any upsell, still get an alternative version of it.

Page #4: Upsell Page #2

Organifi upsell page

This page is ONLY going to appear if your dream customers get the first upsell. If they don’t get it, then it won’t show to them.

This upsell page is going to be similar to the first one with just one difference. The product or service that you are going to upsell is going to be more expensive.

Page #5: Thank-You Page

On this page, all you’re going to do is to thank them for the purchase, and you’ll give them ACCESS to the course that they bought.

Also, you’ll include “Step #2” on this page where you are going to tell people to get another product or service that you are selling.

That way, some people will even instantly get the next thing you’re promoting which is going to boost your revenue.

And that’s how you’re going to build this sales funnel for an online course. I hope you found this helpful and I’ll see you in the next article.
