Writing good Instagram captions is going to be the differentiator between content that performs and content that doesn’t reach anybody or gets you any results.
That’s why you need to pay attention to them and do your best to make sure they are as appealing as possible.
So, how are you going to write good Instagram captions for your reels and posts?
That’s exactly what I’m going to reveal to you in this article.
Are you ready to begin? If so, let’s dive in…
1. Be Personal
Being personal is important for every caption. By being personal I mean not making the caption totally dead fish.
You want to make pour your personality into it. Write the way you talk and show your beliefs and values when writing about something.
You see, when you write a normal sales copy anywhere on the Internet it is important as well. That’s because people want to do business with people.
On Instagram it is twice as important. That’s because social media is twice as personal and people want to engage with people.
They don’t want to engage with robots. They want to engage with somebody they can connect with and RELATE to.
Stone-cold educational text doesn’t do that.
So, write the way you talk, pour your personality into it, and your caption is going to perform.
2. Use AIDA
Using the AIDA formula is one of the best ways you can make your Instagram captions good.
That’s because it is going to make your caption flow and persuasive if you want people to take action at the end.
Here is what this formula for writing good Instagram captions looks like:
1. Attention
2. Interest
3. Desire
4. Action
Let’s have a closer look at each of the steps of the formula.
The attention is the first part of this formula and it is also going to be the first part of your Instagram caption.
If the caption doesn’t hook their attention nobody is going to read it. The best ways to do it is by:
- Arouse Curiosity
- Create Fear
- Use Sense Of Urgency
To be clear, what belongs to this part is the first sentence and the opening part of the caption (few sentences after the first one.)
Be careful to make your hook as strong as possible.
Second, there is the Interest part of the caption.
Here you’re going to create their interest in the entire thing you’re talking about.
This is usually done by appealing to your dream customer’s emotions.
For example, you will appeal to their desires and make them imagine they reach the outcome that they want.
Or you can dive into their problems and frustrations.
It all works. Regardless of the way you do it, the key is to appeal to emotions so that they are interested in what you have to say in the next part of your Instagram caption which is…
Third, Desire. Depending on the type of post that you share this can be two things.
If it is a normal value-based post, then it’s going to show them the main value point the post has to share.
If it’s a promotional post, then this part of the Instagram caption is going to include an offer.
And last, there is the Action part. Based on the desire part it can be done in 2 ways.
The call to action should always ask for people to visit your sales funnel if you want to get customers.
Alternatively, if you are just beginning and the post is sharing value, then you can ask people to follow you or you can ask them to engage with the content.
And now, let’s move to another tip for writing good Instagram captions.
3. Keep It Simple
Keeping the Instagram caption simple is a key part of writing the right caption that people read.
Nobody wants to crawl through a ton of jargon nobody can understand.
So, leave that out.
The caption is going to be way easier to read and that way more people are going to read the caption.
The more people read it, the more results you are going to get.
For example, don’t say airplane, say a plane. Or don’t say an automobile, say car.
That way it’s going to be way easier to consume.
4. Add A Call To Action
As I already mentioned in the AIDA section of this article, adding a call to action to the caption is more than important.
That’s because people are not likely going to take action unless you tell them to do so.
So, it is necessary that you add it for any kind of action you want to take.
A simple example of a call to action can be, “Comment below” or “Click the link in my bio to______”
If you want to enhance the effectiveness of your call to actions, and make people act, add a sense of urgency.
People love to put things until tomorrow. You must not allow them to do it. Procrastination KILLS conversions.
That’s why you need to add a sense of urgency. Without it, you’re not going to get great results.
5. Keep The Loop Open
One of the best ways how to write good Instagram captions is this “…”
Huh? Yup, this “…”
In other words, the three dots at the end of the sentence because…
When you use them, you don’t finish the thought in the sentence…
It will make it impossible for them to stop reading…
Because they just have to consume the entire thought and they won’t stop before…
So, they’ll keep on reading until they finish.
Do you see the power? Three dots are a cliffhanger. And it’s a strong psychological trick.
When you use it, you’re going to make virtually anybody read your Instagram captions.
You can also use cliffhangers in a different way but this one is probably the most powerful one that you can use for your Instagram captions.
So, definitely use this in your captions.
However, caption is still just the caption. If your content is no good, the caption won’t ever save it.
