What Are The Differences Between Successful Social Media Marketing And One That Fails

Depending on the model that your company is using to do social media marketing right now, there are many reasons why your social media marketing isn’t working right now.

That’s because some companies are only aiming to use social media as a place where to show ads and directly drive traffic to a sales page with some sort of an offer, and some companies are aiming to get the exposure organically.

And some aim to do both. Based on that, the reasons are different.

However, I’m going to show you the most important ones in this article. So, are you ready to begin? If so, let’s dive in.

What To Pay Attention To

Again, the way this is going to apply to you is going to vary based on the current model that you follow for social media marketing.

If your main way to drive traffic is the paid way, then this is going to apply to you a little bit differently than if you do it all organically and the other way round.

So, during each of the differences, make sure you immediately think about “How does this apply to me?” and “How do I take direct action?” Got it? If you’re not going to take action, nothing will change.

1. Successful Social Media Marketing Builds Trust And Relationships

Whether you’re running ads or you try to get results organically, to get any customers out of your social media, you need to have trust.

And the way you are going to build trust is simple. You need to show up again, and again, and again. That means, if you run ads, you need to get attention by advertising to the cold audience and then retarget until they buy.

In the organic part, you must understand that without creating content that they want to see and that will help them identify with your brand you’re not going to earn the trust you need.

And a big part of the game is also consistency. You gotta show up every single day. Unless you do that, you are going to likely fail with both…ads, or organic social media marketing. Trust is essential as…

NO TRUST = NO SALE.

2. Be Clear On Your Dream Customer

Now, this is a big deal. If you’re not clear on who your dream customer is, you’re never going to be able to generate any sales or traffic.

Regardless of what your strategy is, you need to ask yourself these questions and start building a buyer persona:

  • What do they like?
  • What do they hate?
  • What are their top 3 daily frustrations?
  • What are their biggest desires?
  • What are their pains?
  • What keeps them up at night?
  • What do they love?
  • What angers them? Who are they angry at?
  • Do they have a built-in bias?

If you’re not clear on who you want to attract, you’re going to attract the wrong people, and with ads, you’ll show them to the wrong people (which is deadly.)

So, spend the time to find out who your dream customer is.

You can even take out a paper, sketch it out, and give him or her a name…and write down EVERYTHING, including their story or their daily routine, what tools they need to do their job, etc..

3. Successful Social Media Marketing Doesn’t Rely On Paid Ads Or Just Organic Strategy. It Does BOTH.

At the beginning of this article, I said that you will have to make big changes based on whether you’re chasing just organic growth or you run just paid ads.

That’s because you will have to start doing the other thing as well. Social media marketing that relies just on organic growth means one simple thing…you’re at a mercy of the algorithm and there is no guarantee that your content is going to be shown to the right people.

Of course, there can be an exception when you leverage other people’s audiences. But in the end, you’re not in control.

However, with paid ads, you ARE in control of who your ad is going to be shown to.

And also, you are not at mercy of anything.

Depending on the profitability of the ad there is an amount of money that you can spend which will generate exposure and new sales for your business.

That is a big part of social media marketing as well and you need to do it.

However, when the ad costs rise, you can lose money just like that. And in the end, you might have to turn the ads off.

But no one is going to ask you to get rid of the audience that you have already accumulated and you can easily use it to drive traffic to your offer.

That’s why you should always do both.

4. Successful Social Media Marketing Is Based On Valuable Content Not On Never-Ending Promotion

Social media marketing has never been about sharing promotions.

Social media is meant to be social and people are either looking to get something valuable there or to entertain themselves…or connect with people.

Promotion doesn’t do any of these things. That’s why instead of promoting all the time you need to switch your content strategy into:

80% Valuable Content

20% Promotion

This way, you are going to be able to effectively promote and turn followers into customers while building strong relationships with the current ones as well as attracting new people.

Don’t forget to do your best to make the content extremely valuable and try to use as many content formats as possible to cover a broader number of people who like different formats.
