How To Increase Reach On Instagram

Reaching new and new people on Instagram is absolutely essential if you want to grow a massive following and get a ton of reach.

Unfortunately, it is not that easy, especially when Instagram reach drops broadly.

And that is why in today’s blog post I am going to show you how to increase your reach on Instagram and get a ton of new followers and customers.

Good Ol’ Hashtags

Hashtags are one of the best ways how to increase reach on Instagram and get awesome results.

Adding 30 of them to every post that you share is absolutely essential. The only problem is that not all hashtags are worth using and not all of them are going to get you results.

That means that to actually get any meaningful reach on Instagram using hashtags, you need to have the right hashtag strategy.

Here is how to create it.

First, you need to pick 5 hashtags that have an average engagement of about 20% lower than your average post engagement (i.e. if your posts get on average 1,000 likes, you choose a hashtag that where posts on the “top” page get on average 800 likes.)

Second, you need to pick 20 hashtags that have an average engagement rate similar to your content (i.e. if your posts get on average 1,000 likes, you choose a hashtag where posts get on average 1,000 likes)

And last you must pick 5 hashtags that have an average engagement about 20% higher than your average post engagement (i.e. if your posts get on average 1,000 likes, you choose hashtags where posts on the “top” page get on average 1,200 likes.)

Now when you know this formula, you’re going to create 5 hashtag sets of 30 hashtags following it that you are going to switch between every time you create new content.

If you want to increase your reach on Instagram, hashtags are one of the best ways to do it. But now, let’s move on to the next tip…

Create Trending Content

You have to be really careful when it comes to leveraging trends, but doing it is one of the best ways to boost your reach on Instagram.

When something is trending, it means that people want to see it. And if they want to see it, then the content is obviously gonna get a lot of reach.

However, trends can also hurt you. That is why before you even consider leveraging a trend, you need to ask yourself three things:

  • Is it relevant to my audience?
  • Is it relevant to my brand?
  • Is it relevant to my brand’s mission?

If the answer to just one of these things is “no”, then you should not try leveraging the trend. But if the answer is a “yes”. Then you should get after it.

Stay Consistent

One of the absolute necessities for increasing reach on Instagram is staying consistent and staying consistent over a long period of time.

The more consistent you are, the more reach on Instagram you are going to get as the algorithm is going to start prioritizing your content and you are going to get some incredible results.

However, it is not easy.

Quite frankly, it is harder than you could’ve imagined.

Here are some tips to stay consistent on Instagram over a long period of time:

  • Schedule your content upfront
  • Batch create content
  • Have a sustainable posting frequency
  • Stay focused on your goal
  • Do your best to get a result

Without consistency, everything you do is going to fail. Your engagement is going to drop, and it will be tough for you to drive any traffic to your sales funnel or make sales.

You can’t afford inconsistency.

Start Creating Reels

Regardless of what you think about them, Instagram reels are one of the best ways how to increase reach on Instagram.

As Instagram is trying to beat TikTok at its own game, reels are a content format that is getting a lot of reach, and also it has a longer lifetime than normal posts.

That means, you still get reach and your reels are shown to new people even for a week.

But even with reels, you need to create them the right way to get any real results. So, how are you going to create reels?

Hook

This is going to be the first 5 seconds of the reel. If you are not going to hook people into watching the reel, they won’t. You gotta grab their attention.

So, how are you going to do it?

There are many ways. It can be a great title, it can be some interesting effect, etc.

But you HAVE to hook them in or you are screwed.

Content

This is the main part of the reel and it is going to take the longest. During this part, you are going to dive deep into the main value point.

If you are entertaining, this is where all of the entertainment is going to happen. If you are educating, this is where all of the education is going to happen.

If you are inspiring, this is where all of the inspiration is going to happen.

And on and on. Just don’t forget that if you are planning to go into real depth, then it is going to be done through the caption, not through the reel itself.

Make sure you do a great job holding their attention and add some things that will help you do the job like transitions.

You have to play with it.

Call To Action

This is the last part of the reel. And if you are not going to add it you can miss out on a lot of potential “caption-readers”. Don’t forget that if somebody is going to take action, it is going to happen because they read the caption, not because they see the reel (at least that’s what’s common.)

Why? Because in the caption you have more than enough space to deliver a persuasive message and appeal to their emotion plus make them take the action that you want them to take.

So always add something like “find out more in the caption” at the end of the reel.
