Everybody wants to be successful with social media marketing, but not everybody is willing to create a winning social media marketing plan that’s going to guide you through the ferocious waters of social media marketing.
The question is, how are going to create one that’s going to work?
That’s what I’m going to show you in this article.
So, are you ready to begin? If so, let’s dive in…
Determine Who’s Your Dream Customer
One of the biggest mistakes that most brands make when creating their social media marketing plan is that they try to attract EVERYBODY.
And that’s why they fail. For example, if you’re selling steaks you can bet that vegans won’t buy from you, nor follow you.
The only person that you need to (and should) want to turn into your follower and a buyer is your dream customer.
The one person that you’d kill to have as a customer and that will find your products or services helpful.
When you’re creating your dream customer avatar, you have to be as specific as possible. Here is a decent example of how you should do it.
This is Emery, my dream client she is a 28 year old photographer. She has a wedding and family photography business that she started 5 years ago. When she started she was still a barista at Starbucks but after 3 years she was finally able to get enough clients to quit Starbucks and focus solely on her photography business. She has hustled nonstop for the past 3 years to try and grow her business and has tried doing just about anything and everything she could to get more clients such as blogging, social media marketing, running ads herself, groupon, mailers and more. This has worked to an extent she has made roughly $80k/year for the past 2 years, but is growing extremely frustrated that she’s hit a road block and can’t seem to grow anymore and even moreso with the fact she has months where she’ll make $10k+ and another where she will make $2k.
She’s getting burnt out as she is spending so much more time marketing her business and trying to get clients then actually doing what she loves to do taking and editing photos. She just got married and wants to be able to travel with her husband for a couple years before they have kids but she doesn’t know how this is going to happen because she feels if she isn’t constantly working on her business it is going to crash and burn.
I am going to help Emery by creating and managing a client aquisition system for her so she will never struggle finding clients, will have so much more time on her hands to take on more clients as well as have the time to travel with her husband. For this she will pay a monthly fee that she will still make a profit on the first client I get her every month.

Again, the more detailed, the better. If you can, you also want to write down their daily routine from waking up to going to bed.
You literally want to put yourself into an FBI mindset and make such a detailed profile that you can use it anywhere, anytime, and to win.
Understand The Platform

Another super important part of your social media marketing plan is to understand the platform that you’re planning to get on or already are on.
This is absolutely essential, as every platform that you can get on is absolutely different.
For example, doing social media marketing on Instagram is going to take a totally different approach than it would take to do it on Twitter.
So, whenever you pick a platform, you want to search for these things:
- Unique platform features
- What are the trends
- If the content shared aligns with your brand (TikTok probably won’t resonate with B2B as much as LinkedIn)
- If your dream customers are there
- If there are additional features available that could increase your sales (like Instagram and Facebook shopping)
All of these things are absolutely essential. If you don’t do your research and you are going to get on the wrong platform, it will cost you a lot of time and money.
However, if you are going to get on the right platform, understand how it works, and leverage the algorithm, you can reach hundreds of thousands of your dream customers at no cost. So, be careful about what you choose.
Prepare A Content Strategy
Another extremely important part of your social media marketing plan is your content strategy.
Your content strategy has to reach strangers, nurture your existing audience, and most importantly SELL (without your followers feeling like they’re sold to.)
That’s why you must create content that is:
- Trending (for more reach)
- Highly VALUABLE, Behind-The-Scenes (for building trust and relationships)
- Promotional (to make sales or make ’em visit other sales funnels)
For example, on Instagram, you can share 3 reels, 3 valuable carousels + single-image posts, and 1 promotional post per week if I’d post once a day.
That way your content is going to attract, nurture, and sell people without a problem.
It is super important to structure it like this if you want your social media marketing plan to be successful.
Have A Great Sales Process
The next necessary part of your social media marketing plan is simply having an amazing sales process. By that, I mean creating a sales funnel.
A great sales funnel can easily take people even from total strangers to customers, and even let you upsell them several times so that you can double or triple the money you make.
How cool is that?
So, how are you going to create a great sales funnel? Every funnel that successfully sells your products or services is created based on the ‘temperature’ of the traffic that you are going to dive into it.
However, because on social media, you are driving cold, warm, and hot traffic to the sales funnel, it can look like this:
- Link Page that links to step 2 and step 3
- Lead-Squeeze Page that collects the email addresses of your dream customers so that you can follow up.
- Sales Page that is going to persuade your dream customers to buy.
- Upsell Pages that will upsell everybody who buys.
- Thank you page -where you will thank them and redirect them to the next sales funnel.
Got it? This is just the basic social media marketing sales funnel. But it works like crazy and you want to use it in your social media marketing plan if you don’t already have another one.
