If you are starting out, you want to focus on keywords with a volume of 1,000 or less. Why? It is easy to rank for these keywords. In fact, you can rank in less than 12 months.
And it is damn important to rank on the first page. The first 5 organic results in the SERPs account for 67.6% of all clicks. That means being on the second page is worth almost nothing.
Here you will either win or die because 75% of people never scroll past the first page of search engines. NEVER!
So ranking on the first page is absolutely necessary.
Cost Per Click (CPC)
This is the number of dollars you would need to pay Google to be seen as an ad. If someone is paying high CPC then the keyword is more valuable.
For example, a keyword with a $2.87 cost per click is less valuable than a keyword with a $14.97 cost per click.
In short, the higher the CPC, the more value the keyword has.
Paid Difficulty (PD)
The paid difficulty is estimated competitiveness in paid search. The higher the number, the more competitive it is.
This metric is only useful if you are willing to invest money into SEO optimization.
SEO Difficulty (SD)
This is the estimated competition in organic search. The higher the number, the more competitive the word is…another extremely important metric for SEO optimization.
If you can, always choose keywords with low SEO difficulty. With these keywords, you will be able to rank faster in the organic search.
Well, these are the four metrics that are crucial when choosing your keywords. And of course, the keywords must be relevant to the topic of your site.
For example, if you have a blog and you are writing a post about baking bread, you will not choose keywords like business, soup, gold, etc.

1. Create lots of content

To create massive internal linking SEO optimization, you need to create a lot of content that you can link to.
When you create lots of content, you’ll have lots of linkable content. The more links to the more places, the better your internal linking strategy will be.
You can achieve that with your blog. Create a lot of content on a lot of topics and you will be able to link it through and through.
But remember that every blog post has to be high-quality. Back up your content with data, statistics, show them examples…
…make the posts readable and oriented on them, etc.
Then link it. It is that simple.
2. Use anchor text
In keeping with the content theme of internal linking, your internal links should use anchor text as opposed to linked images.
Image links are fine, provided that images are not the main source of links, and assuming the image is properly alt-tagged.
You want to use normal, natural anchor text. Don’t try to optimize the text in any way. That would make the anchor text unfamiliar to the readers.
3. Link Deep
The deeper your links go, the better.
In general, you want to avoid links to the top-level pages on a site — pages to which the main navigation menu already has links.
The best links — and the most natural links in a content marketing strategy — are deep within the structure of a site.

4. Use Relevant Links

Internal linking, as I’ve made clear, is less rigorous and scientific than some might think. But you still have to be intentional. Don’t merely link for the sake of linking. Instead, link to content that is relevant to the source context.
In other words, let’s say I have a page on my site about dog food. And, I have a page on my site about the nesting habits of parakeets. (I have neither.)
Should I link the two pages?
There is not a strong connection between dog food and parakeet nests, especially on a superficial level. These two pages probably won’t provide mutual enhancement from internal crosslinking.
So don’t.
But, if I have a page on parakeet food, then it might make a great internal link for my parakeet nest article…
